TxDOT unveils Be Safe Drive Smart initiativePosted/updated on: August 4, 2020 at 2:26 pm
TYLER — Be Safe. Drive Smart. is a public education and awareness campaign presented by TxDOT. On Tuesday, D.P.S. Sgt Jean Dark told KTBB,”We wholeheartedly support that effort. I think one of the things that’s really important for listener’s to recognize is that the state of Texas records more than 3,700 traffic fatalities a year. When you kind of have that perspective, I think then you start to look at ok, what are my driving habits? We can point out all kind of things in other people, but what are the things that we can do ourselves?”
Sgt Dark continued, “I send out all kinds of press releases involving traffic fatalities, and I always try to mention if the person was wearing a seat belt. Why are we not making use of all of the safety precautions and safety devices that are there in the vehicle? So make sure that you are always buckled up, all the people in your car, including the kids in an approved child safety passenger seat. And the last thing that I would really encourage people to do is to pay attention. It just seems like everywhere you look it seems like people have their attention other places than actually driving.” For more tips and info on the Be Safe Drive Smart campaign, click the link. https://www.txdot.gov/driver/share-road/be-safe-drive-smart.html.
